The wire gauge of your chain collar not only influences the look and comfort of the collar, but is also important for durability and safety.
But as a chain novice, it is often difficult to find the right wire gauge for your dog. Our guide tells you which wire gauges we recommend for which types of dogs and over 30 of the most popular dog breeds!
Which chain collar wire gauge for which dog?
Most models of our chain collars come in a variety of wire gauges - suitable for a wide range of dog breeds! We currently offer chains with wire gauges of 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm, and 5mm, depending on the material.
If the chain you are looking for is not available in the recommended wire gauge, if you cannot find your dog's breed in this guide or if you have any other questions about the right chain collar for your dog, please feel free to contact us at any time via social media or our shop.

In addition to our single-row 2.5mm curb chains, curb chains are also available as single-row chains, 2-row chains, and 3-row chains in 2mm, 3mm, and 4mm.

Which collar for large dogs?
Our NeckTech Fun is made of high-quality stainless steel, extremely robust, and adjustable to different lengths, making the NeckTech suitable for large dogs as well.
Which dogs is the NeckTech Fun suitable for?
Even besides very large dogs, our NeckTech Fun is suitable for many dogs thanks to its adjustability and is the perfect combination of a flat dog collar and a classic chain collar.

How does my dog's temperament affect the wire gauge of the chain collar?
For particularly temperamental dogs, we recommend buying a wire gauge higher than you would choose based on the breed.
Our tip: Our stainless steel medium chain in 5mm wire gauge also comes in "extra strong" for even more stability and safety for especially strong dogs.

Which collar is best for dogs that pull hard?
Dogs that pull particularly hard should not be walked on a chain collar without further training. We recommend working with an experienced dog trainer.
If you still want to use a chain collar for double securing, we recommend one of our chains with an assembly chain and the use of a safety clip or coupling strap.

How are the material and wire gauge of a chain collar related?
The material and wire gauge of the chain are important factors in ensuring your dog's safety.
As CUROGAN is a somewhat softer material, you should, if possible, use a thicker wire gauge than with comparable stainless steel chains. It is also important to check the links regularly for material abrasion and replace them in a timely manner.
You can find out more about CUROGAN as a material for chain collars in our blog post on the subject and more about all our chain collar materials here!
